Gumpara Wines

In 1856 the Mader family, driven by religious persecution, left their homeland of Germany to settle in South Australia, acquiring a 25-ha property at Light Pass. Over the generations, farming and fruit growing gave way to 100% grape production.

Six generations later, Mark Mader produced the first wine under the Gumpara label in 2000. After success with shiraz, Mark decided to produce a semillon made from a small parcel of 90-year-old estate semillon. It was judged the top '08 Semillon in the Barossa Wine Show of that year.

A small but diverse portfolio, Mark made a Vermentino in '09 and has a superb range of fortified wines: Tawny Grenache, Liqueur Semillon and Liqueur Frontignac, made by Mark personally. Gumpara Wines was established in 1999 and produces around 650 cases annually.
